Fiddle Tunes

Ross Records has been recording Scottish fiddle tunes since the 1970's,originally on LP and cassette and latterly on CD and DVD. Artists who have made recordings include renowned fiddlers Ron Gonnella, Pau lAnderson, James Alexander, Bert Murray and Hebbie Gray as well asFochabers Fiddlers, Fochabers Fiddlers Frontline , Angus Strathspey & Reel Society and The Moray Players. We also have CDs and DVD's featuring other well known Scottish fiddlers such as Ian Powrie, Hector MacAndrew, Ron Kerr, Angus Cameron and Bobby Harvey and fiddle groups such as Dundee Strathspey & Reel Society and The Ochil Players. Outwith our own Ross Records label there are numerous other fiddle CDs and DVDs from all the top recording artists - Aly Bain and The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra - to name but two.

We have a popular series of seven CD's called 'Music of the Fiddle'
which covers a wide range of both fiddle tunes and fiddles styles
and a superb DVD of Fochabers Fiddlers featuring tracks recorded by them between 1998 and 2006.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 1. - The Moray Players

This CD features a young Charlie McKerron ( of Capercaillie fame) and Keith Collins on fiddles with Jennifer Wilson on piano and George Cowie on bass. The forty-six tunes include New Claret, Hurlock's Reel, and The Hen's March o'er the Midden.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 2. - Angus Strathspey & Reel Society

Forty-six tunes include Black Bear, Thurso Wedding, Cameron Highlanders, Bugle Horn, Teribus, Flowers of Edinburgh, Staten Island, Mason's Apron, Millbank Cottage and many more favourites.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 3. - Dundee Strathspey & Reel Society

Tunes include The Music o'Spey, The Rose Tree, Leezie Lindsay, Tulchan Lodge, Snouts & Ears, Cream of the Barley, The Headlands, Flett from Flotta and The Thingummyjig Polka.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 4. - Bert Murray with Esme Shepherd on Piano

Tunes include Hielan' Laddie, The Londonderry Air (Danny Boy), Fyvie Castle, Flowers o' the Forest, The Forth Brig, The Barren Rocks of Aden, Harvest Home and Ae Fond Kiss.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 5. - Ron Gonnella plays the Fiddles of
Gow, Marshall and Skinner

This CD was introduced by His Grace The Duke of Atholl and was recorded at Blair Castle. Tunes include compositions by the three great composers and also some of Ron's own compositions. You will hear Macpherson's Lament, The Duchess Tree, The Kirrie Kebbuck, The White Cockade, Cam Ye ByAtholl ? , Bonnie Banchory and many more..

Music of the Fiddle Volume 6. - Fochabers Fiddlers - Orange Blossom Special

The CD also includes tracks by Piper Hamish Munro and Milne's High School Choir and the Fiddlers are joined by special guest Paul Anderson. Tunes include Calum's Road, Drowsy Maggie, The Clumsy Lover, The Pearl, George Christie of Fochabers, The Barrowburn Reel, The Wind that Shakes the Barley and Orange Blossom Special.

Music of the Fiddle Volume 7. - Fochabers Fiddlers Frontline - Energised

Frontline, the more experienced members of Fochabers Fiddlers, play twenty - nine tunes including The Banshee, Waiting for the Federals, Scares o' Tatties,Troy's Wedding, Turkey in the Straw, Calmer Weather and lots more.

Scottish Fiddle Music on DVD

Fochabers Fiddlers 1998 - 2006
This is an 18 track compilation DVD featuring Fochabers Fiddlers, filmed at various locations in North East Scotland. It is presented by Gibson Ross and James Alexander and tunes include The Music o' Spey, The Skyeman's Jig, The Gravel Walk, Memories of Father Angus MacDonnell and Calliope
House. The DVD is available in both PAL and NTSC (North American) formats.
