David Brown Tractors - A Power On The Land 1939 - 1988

This programme tells the story of the famous David Brown make, right from its beginnings with the Ferguson Type A right through to the Case IH machines of the 1990s.

We take a look at most types of machine to bear the David Brown name starting with the Vak1 of 1939 right through the Cropmaster and 25 and 30 machines into the era of the Implematic range.

A big change then arrived with the switch to orchid white as the main colour when the new Selectamatic tractors made their debut. The popular 885, 995, 996 and larger 1212 models then held the fort through a change of ownership as the company became part of the North American owned J.I. Case business.

The 90 Series of 1979 were the last tractors to proudly carry the David Brown name but the product continued as the Case and later Case IH 94 Series. All these tractors are featured with many examples shown at work out in the fields doing the job for which they were built  - farming the land!

So join us as we celebrate seventy years since the first tractor to bear the David Brown name left the factory gates of the Meltham Mills plant near Huddersfield - the first in a very long line of successful machines which remain popular amongst both farmers and enthusiasts alike to this day!
